Peter Schmeichel says "shocking" Man Utd player doesn't belong at club in MUTV rant

Peter Schmeichel says there are players that Manchester United "absolutely do not want" at the club as he laid into an unnamed member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad in an MUTV broadcast.

The United goalkeeeping great says that although he thinks former teammate Solskjaer has done well at the club, he thinks there are players at United who "are not there to play for the badge" and should be sold.

"I’m on record for saying this a long, long time, since Ole came, that his most important job is not really to sign players, it’s to get rid of players," Schmeichel told the MUTV Group Chat on Tuesday.

"There’s a few players in the squad that we absolutely do not want there.

"They’re not there to play for the badge. They’re there to create a profile for themselves.

"I was reading about one player trying to make themselves a brand like Beckham which is shocking really. But there are players there that do not belong in the dressing room.

"And I think Ole has done really well in kind of sifting them out of the picture really, so we only get reminded that they’re there in a chat like this, or reading about the squad.

"I think he’s done an amazing job."

Schmeichel didn't name the player he had in mind, but did also go on to praise under-fire goalkeeper David de Gea.

“David is our No.1,” said Schmeichel. “He’s still a young lad, by the way.

“He could play on for another 10 years. Let’s back him. We should support what we have, because we know what we have is really good.

“He’s been tremendous for us, there’s no doubt about that. He stuck it through in the most difficult period of modern-day Manchester United history."
