Peter Schmeichel gives verdict on Solskjaer job pressure at Manchester United

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has offered his backing to the current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer's position at Old Trafford has been under scrutiny recently, with the team winning just two of their past six encounters following the 1-1 draw with Everton.

After a summer of big spending to land Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and sensationally Cristiano Ronaldo, United were expected to challenge across the board.

However, they are already out of the League Cup after a 1-0 to loss to West Ham and they've dropped four points from their past two home matches in the Premier League.

Ronaldo's last-gasp winner against Villarreal helped keep some of the pressure off the manager though that returned following the Everton game, a match in which a win would have seen United go top of the table.

Speaking to TalkSport, Schmeichel said Solskjaer deserves credit for the job he's doing and the time to build a squad that can win trophies.

"It is working quite well and it's working out quite well for the club as well," said the legendary goalkeeper. "I don't think there was a question about how many changes needed to be done once he got the job.

"He didn't get the job full-time to begin with and the work he has to do is far from finished but I think he is doing really well. There's all sorts of headline likes #OleOut and fair enough if you think that but give me another name.

"Who can go in and who can change the fortunes of Manchester United in a split second. I don't see that person out there.

"I am very comfortable with Ole as the Manchester United manager. He has the United DNA running through him, he understands the club and what needs to be done today, next week and also in five years. "
