Peter Sawkins on Great British Bake Off final as Edinburgh born champion predicts winner

The Great British Bake Off will air its finale tonight - and yes we agree, it's gone by too fast!

So far just three contestants remain to battle it out and be crowned the 2022 winner.

This includes Sandro, Syabira and Abdul who all have a pretty good chance of winning.

But whilst we all have our favourites as to who we want to be crowned champion, others have also had their say ahead of the last episode of the series.

Past winners Peter Sawkins and David Atherton have predicted who they think they will win, both choosing different candidates in exclusive Cameo videos.

Edinburgh-born Peter, winner of the 2020 series. said that although Syabira is currently in red hot form, he believes that the many to be believed underdog of the final, Abdul, might just have the edge. When pressed for why he thinks Abdul, Peter said: "He’s been incredibly consistent throughout the entire run and I think consistency often works well in Bake Off."

Peter added that the baker has "shown to be a very technically proficient and very consistent baker, which means I think he’ll have a very good shot."

When former winner David Atherton, champion of 2019 was asked the same question, he confessed one of his favourites to win was Janusz, who was controversially dumped from the contest in this week’s semi-final.

Of those left, David thinks Syabira also has a chance explaining: "She is smashing it because Prue and Paul don’t actually like different flavours.

"Syabira is managing to wow them with incredible flavours that they have probably not had before…some of the best bakes from this series have been Syabiras.”

However when pressed on who he thinks will win, David gives the edge to Sandro concluding: "He seems to want it more than anybody else in a very competitive kind of way" adding: “I would love it if the outsider Abdul romped home to victory!”

You can watch the GBBO finale tonight November 15, 2022, on Channel 4 at 8pm.
