Peter O'Mahony offers support to injured Joey Carbery after his own World Cup heartbreak in 2015

Having experienced World Cup injury heartbreak himself last time out, Peter O'Mahony is hoping Joey Carbery will be ready to hit the ground running for the finals.

Contrasting reports have claimed that the young out-half will be out for four to six weeks with the ankle injury he suffered in last Saturday's warm-up win over Italy.

An official update is expected today.

O'Mahony's much more serious ACL injury didn't happen until four games into the 2015 tournament and caused him, like a number of other Ireland frontliners, to miss the quarter-final defeat to Argentina.

The 28-year-old reflected: "From my experience, I was lucky. It was a nine-month injury. It wasn’t a two-weeker where I would have just missed the quarter-final.

“I was injured on a Saturday at the last World Cup during the French game and home on the Sunday. It's just part of it.

“There are times when it was difficult. It's something you just have to take on the chin.

“I'd been there before. There's a good chance I'll be there again at some stage.

“You just have to take the good with the bad. It’s part of the game."

And Munster colleague Carbery? O'Mahony has been in contact via text message to wish him well in his recovery.

He remarked: “He’s got to wait and see what the story is.

“You're not made of stone. You're going to pick up the phone and wish him well.

"Hopefully, he'll be OK. We’re not taking about someone who has passed away or something! He’s a young fella, he's positive, he's very hopeful".
