Peter Lovenkrands will use Rangers and Steven Gerrard as Denmark inspiration as new manager grateful for Ibrox education

Former Rangers hero Peter Lovenkrands has hailed the leadership of Steven Gerrard after taking up his first job as a manager.

The Dane also paid special tribute to Michael Beale as he took over as boss at Fremad Amager in Denmark's second-tier.

The 41-year-old was announced as the second-tier side's head coach this week. He joins after a stint as Rangers' B team manager where he said he learned a lot from the Liverpool legend and accompanying Beale.

He said: “From my time at Glasgow Rangers, I gained a lot of experience from Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale, who gave me some important tools in everyday life.

"The leadership role of the B team gave me an opportunity to work on my development and the development of the players who had to fight for a place on a really strong first team under the leadership of Gerrard."

Lovenkrands also spoke about coming up against strong Under-19 teams while coaching with the Ibrox side, including Bayern Munich, Benfica and FC Copenhagen.

He added: "There was a lot of international learning by playing against clubs with such a well-established youth setup.

"Now a new chapter in my career is starting, and I am really excited to get started on Monday morning."

After more than 150 appearances for Rangers, Lovenkrands went on to play for Newcastle United, Birmingham City and Schalke 04, while also bagging 22 caps for his country.

One of Fremad Amager's representatives added: "He comes with a lot of experience from abroad as a player, and has most recently had a great responsibility in Glasgow Rangers for some really talented young players."
