Peter Lovenkrands emerges as St Johnstone contender as Rangers coach looks for first manager's job

Peter Lovenkrands has emerged as a serious contender for the St Johnstone job.

The Dane is currently reserve coach at former club Rangers where he has impressed.

But it’s thought Lovenkrands has aspirations to become a manager and was linked with the Kilmarnock job after Angelo Alessio’s departure and was considered by FC Nordsjaelland in his homeland.

Lovenkrands is now in the running for the vacant Saints position following Tommy Wright’s shock departure after seven years at the helm in Perth.

Lovenkrands’ brother Tommy spent three years at McDiarmid Park in the early noughties and close friend and fellow Gers Academy coach Peter MacDonald is a former fans favourite.

St Johnstone aren’t in a rush to make an appointment with the football authorities no clearer in knowing when it will be safe to resume.

Wright’s assistant Alex Cleland is the frontrunner but highly-rated Lovenkrands, 40, is being considered for the chance to become a first-team gaffer in his own right.
