Peter Lawwell fire: Images released of man and car after blaze at Celtic chief's home

Police investigating a deliberate fire at the home of Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell have released images of a man they want to speak to.

Emergency services were called to the fire in the Thorntonhall area around 12.50am on May 19.

Investigations revealed that accelerant was poured onto three cars outside the property before the blaze quickly spread to a converted garage area of the house which sustained 'extensive damage'.

Mr Lawwell and his family were uninjured in the incident and were taken to a safe location as police investigations were carried out.

Detectives have now released two images of a man and a car seen in the area around the time of the incident they are keen to trace.

The man in the image is wearing black joggers, a black hooded jumper with the hood up, black trainers, and a face mask. The car is described as a silver/grey hatchback.

The Celtic chief described the incident as 'devastating'.

He added: "This has been a devastating attack on myself and my family, the effects of which will stay with us all for a long time.

"I am, of course, extremely relieved that everyone is safe. I would like to thank my wife and my family for their support and for the strength and courage they have shown during such a difficult time.

“Naturally my family has been deeply affected by these events. This is a hugely challenging time but we will make sure we stay strong and we will get through this together.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to offer my thanks to the Fire Service for their skill, bravery and professionalism in dealing with the fire, and Police Scotland, too, for their support and professionalism.

"I also thank the Celtic Board and Celtic staff for all the support they have given me. It has been fantastic and sincerely appreciated.'

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Anyone who may recognise the male in the images, or the vehicle, or who has any information is asked to contact Police Scotland via the telephone number 101 quoting incident 0134 of 19 May, 2021.

"Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be provided anonymously."
