Peter King says Trent Williams is ‘likely to get traded’ during NFL Draft

The belief in Washington has long been that the Redskins are looking to trade left tackle Trent Williams for a package of assets that will be useful in the 2020 NFL Draft. Time is running out for them to do so.

With the draft starting on Thursday, the Redskins are likely going to make some last-ditch efforts to find a suitable team to send their seven-time Pro-Bowler to, hoping to get as high as a second-round pick in return, but likely settling for a package of multiple mid-round picks at this point. According to NBC Sports Peter King, it’s a trade that will likely happen during the draft.

Should a trade happen, as King has predicted, it will be the long-awaited ending to a tenuous situation that has boiled along in Washington for a couple of years now. Williams wants to go to a team who has a chance to contend for a championship now before he gets too far past his prime, and the Redskins want fair compensation for him. Those two wants have not found a middle-ground yet, as Trent is asking for a record-setting contract from whoever trades for him, and the Redskins are asking for a second-round pick for him as well.

So will this two-year-long saga finally come to an end in the next week? The pessimist in me says no, but Peter King feels confident that Trent will be on a new team by the weekend.
