Peter King prediction on Jets-Packers trade doesn’t include 2023 first-round pick

The waiting game continues on what we still believe is the inevitable trade of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Jets. It’s just a matter of what the compensation for Green Bay will be.

In his latest edition of Football Morning in America, Peter King had a thought of what he believes would be the fairest deal for Rodgers. The good news is the deal does not involve the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft.

The details of the predicted trade from King:

  • Jets receive Aaron Rodgers
  • Packers receive No. 43 this year and a conditional pick in 2025

You read that right, the extra pick would come from 2025, not 2024, based on Rodgers’ playing in 2024. Here’s how King notes the condition:

“If he plays 100 snaps or more in 2024, the Jets give Green Bay a first-round pick. If Rodgers plays less than that, the Jets give Green Bay a third-rounder.”

That’s starting to sound more like what the framework of a Rodgers will be, at least at its core: No. 43 this year and a conditional pick that could potentially be a first-round pick. We’ll see if any other players are added to the deal as well. For now, consider it likely the Jets won’t be picking in the second round.
