Peter Keane insists Kerry haven't missed their chance after All-Ireland final draw

Peter Keane insisted that Kerry haven’t missed their chance after the All-Ireland final stalemate.

Keane’s side looked to be on the brink of one of the county’s most famous victories ever as they led five-in-a-row hopefuls Dublin by a point in injury time only for Dean Rock to force a replay, which will take place on Saturday week.

The Kerry boss said: “Ah no, I wouldn’t say it’s an opportunity missed. At the end of the day, we weren’t in an All-Ireland final since 2015. You’ve a young team. What are they going to get only experience out of the game.

“In terms of learning curve, I said all year we’re on a crash course with a learning curve and sure this is only helping it.”

Kerry’s chances weren’t highly rated going into the game with their odds standing at 5/1  though Keane remarked: “While ye might read a lot into yourselves, we wouldn’t read a lot into what ye’re thinking. We wouldn’t put a whole pile of emphasis on that.

“We’re just thinking about ourselves. Did we think we had a hand coming here today? Sure of course.

“If you’ve two dogs in any race, one of the dogs might get a heart attack and the other fella will walk home. You’ve a chance every time you’re out there.”

Keane was pleased with the impact of his bench with Killian Spillane and Tommy Walsh impressing and he added: “Well, I think we got a good bounce out of our subs today and Tommy was one of those guys.

"What did he do? He had two shots. He scored one, missed one but he set up another one so he had a good day, yeah.”
