Peter Keane braced for another Kerry retirement as he adds five to his panel

Kerry boss Peter Keane is bracing himself for one more possible retirement from his Kerry panel.

Keane has already lost Jonathan Lyne, Brian Kelly and Shane Enright from the group that lost to Cork in last year's Munster semi-final.

The Kingdom boss has reacted by adding five names to this year's panel, although no collective training is allowed for now.

Keane is waiting on one senior player who has asked for a few more weeks to consider his future. The Kerry management are keen for him to remain on.

Kieran Fitzgibbon, who impressed in goal for Kenmare Shamrocks in the Club and Kerry SFC last summer, gets a call-up to replace Kelly.

Defender Brian Leonard and utility players Eddie Horan, Paul O'Shea and Mark Ryan are also included, with all three able to play in midfield or in the forward line.

O’Shea is David Clifford’s first cousin and will concentrate on under-20 football first, while Ryan will join brother Shane in the senior panel.

It is also expected that a coach/selector will be added to the management team, although nothing concrete has been decided.

Meanwhile, two-time All-Ireland SHC winner and five-time All-Star Brendan Cummins has reluctantly stepped down as coach/selector with the Kerry senior hurlers due to work commitments.

The popular ex-Tipp keeper has not severed his ties completely and will be hoping to help Kerry and manager Fintan O’Connor out during the season, work permitting.
