Peter Kay worries fans with first TV appearance in two years on Big Night In

Peter Kay left viewers concerned this evening with his first TV appearance in two years.

The Phoenix nights creator, 46, made his TV comeback as Children In Need and Comic Relief teamed up for BBC One's The Big Night In to raise money for charity.

Peter was last seen on TV after the second series of Car Share ended in May 2018. More recently, viewers have been able to watch repeats of his work on Peter Kay's Comedy Shuffle on BBC One.

Introducing the video this evening, Peter was seen wearing his shades as he ate an ice lolly in his garden.

He said: "15 years ago I did a sketch for Comic Relief called Is This The Way To Amarillo and I never imagined that it would go down so well and make everyone happy.

"And I thought, what a perfect time to recreate it again.

"So we've asked a lot of you to film yourselves and send it in and listen, if you can help tonight there's a number on screen.

"If you can't, then don't worry about it. You've got enough going on.

"But take care and enjoy yourselves in Is this The Way To Amarillo?

"Lots of love to you all."

However, viewers were worried that he didn't seem like himself, but hoped that he was ok.

One tweeted: "I'm worried about how unwell Peter Kay looked on #TheBigNightIn."

While another commented: "Peter Kay Hope he's doing alright #TheBigNightIn."

A third remarked: "Aw god Peter Kay on #TheBigNightIn :(( really hope he’s ok."

"Great to see Peter Kay back on our screens, but he didn’t look or sound too well #PeterKay #NationalTreasure #TheBigNightIn," another wrote.

Tonight, he was reunited with Tony Christie as they joined forces to recreate their 2005 video of the original 1971 Amarillo song.

The updated version featured NHS nurses, care workers and other key workers to honour them for their work on the frontline during the coronavirus outbreak.

Fans were left in tears by the video, with one writing: "Sobbing at Peter Kay recreating Amarillo #coronamayhavebrokenme #TheBigNightIn."

Earlier today, Kay thanked fans for sending in thousands of emotional Amarillo videos.

He tweeted: "I wanted to say a huge heartfelt thanks to everybody who’s took the time to film themselves marching to Amarillo. We’ve literally received thousands.

"Lots of very emotional clips from nurses & care workers & key workers & shoe repairers. Thank you all xxx."

Singer Tony filmed in front of a green screen and sent the footage to the BBC, where he would be superimposed next to Peter's footage.

Also taking part in tonight's star-studded event was Catherine Tate, who reprised her role as sulky teenager Lauren, as well as Matt Lucas and David Walliams, who reunited for Little Britain.

Dawn French also reprised her Vicar Of Dibley role in a one-off special.
