Peter Kay makes rare return to Twitter as he supports Car Share to win TV BAFTA

Peter Kay briefly returned to social to share his delight at Car Share receiving BAFTA TV nomination .

The comic, who was last seen in public in January, took to Twitter following the news they were up for a 'Must See Moment' award for the finale of the comedy series.

He retweeted his co-star Sian Gibson who had shared a tweet from their producer Gill Isles encouraging fans to vote, adding #doitforthehedgehog.

Peter, 45, also shared a tweet from Car Share writer Paul Coleman who had written: "I love all of these shows. But sod them. Vote for #CarShare."

It's the first time the comedian has posted on the social media platform since asking fans via retweets to vote for the series at the NTA's back in January - which they won.

During her speech she said she'd make sure to deliver the award to him back up north as he watched the action from his sofa at home.

She said: "He'll be watching at home with a cup of tea - we are taking the award round to him tomorrow."

He was forced to cancel his first stand up tour in eight years in December 2017, citing “personal reasons”.

Since then he has kept a low profile and made just that one public appearance, the charity fundraiser featuring the screening of a Car Share episode.

In November 2018 it was revealed that Peter had been planning his comeback after Car Share co-star Sian Gibson, who plays Kayleigh in the BBC comedy, admitted the duo had been working on a new script.

Car Share's finale left fans divided over the ambiguous ending to the series.

Fans begged for a happy ending ever since the second series finished with Kayleigh declaring her feelings for John.

It was seemingly revealed that John and Kayleigh did get together at the end of the last ever episode - but it wasn't made explicitly clear.

Before the romantic stuff, John nearly died when a lorry came crashing into his car door.

The pair had stopped in the middle of the road so Kayleigh could save a hedgehog, causing a crash that nearly killed John.

He looked horrified after going to step out of his car just as a lorry came hurtling past.

Stunned John turned white as he looked around outside and saw his smashed-up window lying on the road.

With his car towed away, the pair got onto a bus and sat next to each other at the back.

While remaining in silence, Kayleigh gave John one of her headphones so they could listen to her music together.

After giving each other a smile, John held out his hand, which was grabbed hold of by Kayleigh .

The series ended with Kayleigh leaning her head on John's shoulder in a touching moment.

The episode was billed as “the finale”, but Kay teased: “We never said there wouldn’t be any more Car Share… we just said there wouldn’t be a third series.”

Sian agreed: “Never say never.”
