Peter Kay's wealth skyrockets to £35 million despite shunning the spotlight for years

Peter Kay ’s wealth has soared to £35million despite the comic barely working since 2017.

Accounts show the Phoenix Nights star banked £2.7m more than last year – the same as £7,400 in daily pay.

Kay’s performing arts firm Hussein Traders Ltd, filed at Companies House this week, reported the comic has funds worth £10,173,706. This includes £941,713 cash in the bank, compared to £151,047 in 2020.

The accounts also reveal investments worth £22,263,991.

Kay, 48, uses the company for money generated for his stand-up, TV shows and biographies. His firm Good Night Vienna Productions Ltd, which he runs with wife Susan, has funds worth £24,889,360 –including £12,295,715 in cash.

The Bolton star took a showbiz break in 2017 after he cancelled his UK tour due to "unforeseen family circumstances".

He returned the following year with the finale of his BBC1 show Car Share.

After several years away, fans gave Kay a standing ovation at two charity Q&As at the Manchester Apollo in August.

Last week, he was seen in a rare snap as he beamed alongside broadcasters Bob Harris and Danny Baker before their Backstage Pass show in Salford.

The comedian recently revealed he was recording the audiobook for his autobiography The Sound Of Laughter – 15 years after it was published.

Kay admitted he had missed writing and was inspired to write a third book.

He added: "I had the idea about 10 years ago. All about working in TV."
