Peter Kay's rare public outing as he's seen for first time in a year

Peter Kay made a rare public appearance today - one year since we last saw him.

The comedian was pictured posing up with staff members of Blackpool-based Heritage Tram Tours as he enjoyed a day out.

The 45-year-old had a huge smile on his face as he happily posed up with the driver and conductor.

Peter was wearing dark blue trousers and colourful blue checked shirt for his outing, while protecting himself from the Easter bank holiday sun with a cap and shades.

The snap was shared by the company's official Twitter account - and it's clear they were thrilled to have him on board.

They said: "We do love a celebrity passenger on our tours, when we can't get one @ PeterKay_co_uk will do instead! He kindly allowed a a photo with the driver and conductor on Boat 600 this afternoon."

It's the first time we've seen the star since he made a surprise appearance at a charity screening of his BBC sitcom Car Share in April, last year.

In a video captured by a fan, Peter was seen begging the audience not to tell anyone how the show ends.

The episodes were set to air on the BBC the following month.

Standing on stage at the Blackpool Winter Gardens, Peter told his fans: "Thank you very much for supporting the Lily Foundation raising money for mitochondrial disease. Very kind of you. I appreciate it. Enjoy the last ever episode of Car Share.

"Don’t tell anyone the end. Or tell anyone about any hedgehogs."

In March this year, Peter made a brief return to Twitter to share his delight at Car Share being nominated for a BAFTA TV Award for 'Must See Moment'.

He retweeted his co-star Sian Gibson who had shared a tweet from their producer Gill Isles encouraging fans to vote, adding #doitforthehedgehog.

Peter also shared a tweet from Car Share writer Paul Coleman who had written: "I love all of these shows. But sod them. Vote for #CarShare."

The show won at the National Television Awards in January, and Peter was noticeably absent from the ceremony.

Sian collected the award, along with two of her co-stars, and vowed to deliver it to Peter.

She said: "He'll be watching at home with a cup of tea - we are taking the award round to him tomorrow."
