Peter Kay's new Amarillo video has fans in tears on BBC Big Night In

Peter Kay left viewers emotional by recreating his Amarillo hit for the BBC's Big Night In.

The comedian returned to screens last night (April 23) with a new version in support of the NHS and key workers.

The star introduced the video from his Bolton back-yard, then performed alongside key workers and the original crooner Tony Christie himself, appearing on a greenscreen.

The video paid tribute to the key workers making sacrifices during the coronavirus pandemic, reports the MEN.

Fans were in tears while watching the reboot, many praising the comic on social media for his efforts.

One fan commented: "Sobbing at Peter Kay recreating Amarillo."

"Great to see a bit of Amarillo one of the best ever pieces on one of these shows" another posted.

"Amarillo 2020 was a lovely treat. Put a smile on my face."

A third wrote: "Never thought i would be sitting here crying at is this the way to amarillo but here we are."

The comedian revealed he has received thousands of clips of people marching to his version of the song.

NHS staff, care employees and other key workers made their own videos featuring the tune, the star said.

In February Kay announced his comeback after a three-year hiatus, unveiling plans to host six Dance For Life shows in London, Liverpool and Manchester for Cancer Research UK.

Those April dates have since been postponed due to Covid-19, but the star has promised the shows will be back.
