Peter Kay's Amarillo video edits out paedo Jimmy Savile for Big Night In

Eagle-eyed Big Night In viewers may have spotted one famous face is missing from Peter Kay's newly updated Amarillo video: Jimmy Savile.

Savile, who was exposed as a sexual predator after his death in 2011, had starred in the original version of the (Is This The Way To) Amarillo parody, which comedian Peter had filmed with singer Tony Christie for Comic Relief in 2005.

But after his terrible crimes came to light, the disgraced entertainer was left on the cutting room floor and the parody was updated to leave his 15-second cameo out.

In the 2020 version, which Peter has re-released to pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of heroic keyworkers keeping the country going during the coronavirus pandemic, there's no sign of the paedo DJ.

Instead, heartwarming scenes of doctors, nurses, carers, bin collectors, shop workers and children fill the screen while Peter walks towards the camera mouthing the famous Amarillo lyrics.

The funnyman has become somewhat of a recluse in recent years, after cancelling his record-breaking stand-up tour in 2017 citing "unforeseen family circumstances".

He has never spoken of what happened to make him pull the £40million tour, which left fans devastated.

Since then, Peter has appeared very rarely in public - wowing fans when he turned up at a special 2018 charity screening of Peter Kay's Car Share, in which he stars opposite Sian Gibson.

So it was a pleasant surprise to see him introduce his new version of Amarillo on Thursday's Big Night In, which he appeared to have filmed inside his own garden.

Speaking directly to the camera with an ice lolly in hand, Peter said: "15 years ago I did a sketch for Comic Relief called Is This The Way To Amarillo and I never imagined that it would go down so well and make everyone happy.

"And I thought, what a perfect time to recreate it again.

"So we've asked a lot of you to film yourselves and send it in and listen, if you can help tonight there's a number on screen.

"If you can't, then don't worry about it. You've got enough going on.

"But take care and enjoy yourselves in Is this The Way To Amarillo?

"Lots of love to you all."

But some fans were concerned about Peter's appearance, with many wondering if he was ill.

"Great to see Peter Kay back on our screens, but he didn't look or sound too well #PeterKay #NationalTreasure #TheBigNightIn," wrote one.

And another remarked: "Aw god Peter Kay on #TheBigNightIn :(( really hope he's ok."
