Peter Kay 'in talks with BBC bosses on new project' after long break from showbiz

Comic Peter Kay is reportedly speaking to BBC bosses about a project which will see him return to our screens.

Since the final episode of his show Car Share aired last year, Peter, 46, has taken a break from performing.

At the end of 2017, he cancelled all of his upcoming tour dates due to "unforseen family circumstances", having already filmed the Car Share finale.

It was due to be his first tour in eight years, and Peter did not explain the exact reason, only asking for privacy.

But now The Sun has reported that he is discussing his big comeback.

A TV source said: “A conversation has been had between Peter and the BBC. There is no rush and whatever happens will always be dictated by Peter but a new project has been discussed.

“It’s exciting news for Peter’s fans, who have yet to see the void left by Car Share filled.”

Kay has had a profitable 12 months despite taking a break from TV and showbiz.

The Bolton comedian has barely been seen in public over the past year but his latest published accounts show that he has been coining it in without having to perform.

Peter seen his businesses continue to flourish, earning millions in the past year even though he hasn't worked much during the period.

In total, the accounts show that Kay has amassed a fortune of £32million in cash and investments through his companies.

The Phoenix Nights creator's Goodnight Vienna Productions business is sat on £23.7m in cash for last year, which is up from £19.8m in 2017.

Another of his production companies, Hussein Traders Limited, has a huge £8.3m sat in the bank through available monies and investments.

He surprised his fans by announcing a special screening of Phoenix Nights in 2020.
