Peter Kay fans hopeful of new shows as YouTube channel launched

Peter Kay has launched a new YouTube channel, with some fans hopeful of new material.

The comedian cancelled  all his upcoming work projects in December 2017 and has yet to produce any new shows.

At the time he said: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all my upcoming shows.

"This unfortunately means includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding work commitments.

"My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first.

"I've always endeavored to protect my family's privacy from the media.

"I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again I'm very sorry."

However, today (January 9) he posted a tweet confirming he had launched a new YouTube channel.

It read: "Check out some of your favourite a Peter Kay moments with his new YouTube channel."

At the moment, highlights from Peter's career including his iconic piece about "the trip to the dentist" have been uploaded.

But some fans took to his Twitter replies to share their hope for future content.

One wrote: "I love Peter Kay. I really do. But is there any chance we'll ever get to see him performing new material? We need this."

Another said: "Now we are talking!! Whoop whoop!!!! Xx"

A third tweeted: "Nice to see you again Peter."

This comes after Peter took to Twitter last year, claiming a Channel 5 documentary airing about his life was “misleading”.

In December, ' Peter Kay Comedy Genius:  In His Own Words' was shown on Channel 5.

The two-hour-long documentary was billed as: "A celebration of the life and career of the comedian, featuring interviews with the man himself as well as friends and colleagues Pete Waterman, Jenny Powell and Bobby Davro."

But Peter posted a statement to Twitter saying he had nothing to do with the documentary.

His tweet reads: "Very flattering of Channel 5 to commission the programme going out tonight, but just to let people known that 'Peter Kay: In His Own Words' has an incredibly misleading title, as it doesn't feature any new interviews with Peter and all the footage is completely historic.

"The title also gives the impression that Peter has been involved in the making of this documentary, which he hasn't. At all."

Channel 5 declined to comment.
