Peter Kay announces return to live comedy for first time in three years

Peter Kay has announced he is set to return to live comedy for the first time in three years.

The iconic British comedian was set to embark on a world tour in 2017 - but this was cancelled due to family reasons - and he hasn't been on stage since a surprise appearance at a Car Share screening in 2018.

However, the 48-year-old comic, famous for creating classic shows such as Phoenix Nights, has now taken to Twitter to share that he'll be performing two live shows in aid of a very special cause.

The announcement said: "Peter Kay will be performing two very special live Q&A’s in aid of Laura Nuttall at Manchester O2 Apollo on 7th Aug 21.

"Tickets go on sale on this Friday (30th July) at 9am."

The Bolton funnyman also posted a link to the Doing it For Laura Facebook page, created by Laura's parents, to share her story.

The Facebook page states: "Our beautiful 20 year old Laura was diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme in October 2018 after a brain scan that showed 6 brain tumours. Laura was in her first term at Kings College London after getting straight A’s in her Alevels last August".

Laura wanted to join the Royal Navy after completing her degree before the devastating diagnosis.

A fundraising page has been set up for Laura in the hope of receiving £80,000 for treatment which isn't available on the NHS.

And Laura's parents have expressed their immense gratitude at the comedian's help with their fundraising.

A post said: "I still can't quite believe this is really happening! We are so incredibly grateful to Peter for this x."

Tickets for the event go on sale this Friday at 9am and can be purchased here and here
