Peter Kay and CGI Tony Christie set for Amarillo reunion for BBC1's Big Night In

Peter Kay and Tony Christie are to be reunited, as the pair join forces once again in aid of BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief.

BBC1's Big Night In will see Tony, who sang the original Amarillo back in 1971, and Peter back together in an update on Peter's 2005 video for the song.

The video turned Amarillo into Britain's biggest song at the time - something the pair are no doubt hoping to repeat.

The update will feature NHS nurses as well, to honour them for the work they do on the frontline against coronavirus.

Tony told The Sun : "To have a No 1 at the age of 77 would be incredible. I just can't believe it.

"The song will now cross over three generations - 1971, 2005, and now 2020."

After he was asked to do the show, Tony filmed in front of a green screen and sent the footage to the Beeb, where he could be superimposed next to Peter's footage.

They're not the only big names lined up for the event, as the live show will he hosted by Lenny Henry, Davina McCall, Matt Baker, Zoe Ball and Paddy McGuinness.

They will be complying with the government's social distancing rules and broadcasting from their homes.

Lenny told: "I've been part of the Comic Relief family for years, and at times like these it's so important we all come together to support one another, which is why we've joined forces with BBC Children In Need for The Big Night In."

Alongside Peter will be duo Matt Lucas and David Walliams, bringing Little Britain to telly screens for the first time in over a decade.

Catherine Tate will also be reprising the role of moody teenager Lauren, who's getting to grips with being digitally educated by teacher David Tennant.

Dawn French will also be making a one-off reprisal of her Vicar Of Dibley role.

The Big Night In airs on BBC1 at 7pm on Thursday 23rd April.

Donations will be divided equally between BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief.
