Peter Houston appointed Celtic 'super-spy' as Neil Lennon bolsters backroom team

Celtic have appointed Peter Houston as their new super-spy.

Neil Lennon has brought the former Dundee United and Falkirk manager in to scout the opposition for him.

Houston replaces Jack Lyons who quit to team up with Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton again at Leicester City.

The 60-year-old started in his new role last week and was at Station Park on Saturday to get the inside track on St Johnstone ahead of their Premiership opener and flag unfurling on Saturday.

Houston, who has been out of work since he stepped down as assistant manager at Morton at the end of last season, has previously scouted for Celtic before but that was looking at potential signing targets.

He was out in Romania to spy on Celtic’s potential next Champions League opponents last week, as CFR Cluj beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 1-0.

Houston will also take in this week’s second leg in Israel as he looks to get Lennon and his players the information they need to try and progress.

His new job will see him brief the management and coaching staff and then take the detail on to the next level with the team.
