Peter Haring is adamant Hearts won't get carried away with their positive start to the new season.
The Jambos have marked their return to the Premiership with consecutive victories, including a memorable opening weekend victory over Celtic.
Robbie Neilson's side overcame St Mirren on Saturday but Haring was around in 2018/19, when Hearts won five on the spin only for the wheels to come off their season.
And he maintains that can't be allowed to happen again.
The midfielder said: “In the first season I came here we had a really, really good start to the campaign and I remember well how it ended. It wasn’t that great so we won’t get too carried away.
“We’re only two games into the season and it’s going well but it depends how it ends.
“We definitely haven’t proven anything yet. It’s just two games into the season and it has been a nice start but we have to continue playing like that and playing with that mentality.
“Last season there was a lot coming down on us because some games didn’t go that well but ultimately we got back into the Premiership where we belong – or where we think we have to be.
“I know the Cups last season were very, very disappointing and hard to deal with, especially for the fans, but for us as well.
“But we never doubted too much. We know the quality we’ve got and what we have to do to win games in the Premiership.
“The first two league games have gone well but we haven’t proven anyone wrong yet. It’s going to be a long season.”
