Peter Haring counters Celtic star Callum McGregor's 'must not lose' stance with all guns blazing Austria prediction

Hearts star Peter Haring insists Austria will treat Tuesday night's World Cup qualifying showdown as an absolute must win - even if Scotland don't.

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor revealed earlier on Monday he felt the crucial showdown in Vienna was more of a "must not lose" for Steve Clarke's team.

The Scots sit third in Group F behind Denmark and Israel but can take control of their own destiny with a win in the Ernst Happel Stadion.

Austria and under-fire manager Franco Foda were thumped 5-2 by Israel at the weekend and cannot afford another slip-up

That's why their countryman Haring believes they'll go all guns blazing to stop that happening.

"Definitely (it means just as much to Austria). It's a huge game for both teams," he told BBC Scotland's The Nine.

"In Austria, it's more seen as a must-win game to get second spot in the group.

"There was much disappointment after the heavy defeat in Israel. The team definitely expected to go there and pick up three points.

"There's been huge criticism of the team after the performance, and especially of the coach as well.

"On Tuesday, they will definitely try to show everyone they are better than the performance on Saturday.

"They definitely start on the front foot and try to dominate the game, try to win.

" Scotland will be a tough game and will try to hit Austria on the counter and try to score from that.

"It's going to be a tough game for both of them, for Austria especially because of the previous result on Saturday.

While Haring will keep a keen eye on events in his homeland, the Hearts midfielder's mind is focused on domestic matters.

This weekend, that involves the small matter of the Edinburgh derby against Hibs in front of a sold-out Tynecastle.

Haring said: "I'm not nervous at all, to be honest (for the derby). But I'm more looking forward to my game on Saturday.

"We've had a great start to the campaign so far and it's the first Edinburgh for quite a while, and it's in front of a full stadium again.

"We're all looking forward to it. I can't wait."
