In the final week before election day, Peter Dutton’s campaign encountered a new hitch in the form of a media bus becoming bogged in Sydney’s CBD.
The Opposition Leader was all set to embark upon a media blitz on Monday morning when a bus carrying the press who were covering his movements on the campaign trail became lodged on a median strip outside of the hotel they were staying at.
Footage of the incident shows those who were on board the bus attempting to dislodge it from the obstruction, but the vehicle reportedly remained immobile for more than half an hour as it blocked a section of Pitt Street and forced surrounding traffic to navigate around it.

It all has the faint whiff of the kind of campaign trail hijinks that swirled Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation, made all the more ironic by the fact that Dutton’s campaign slogan is “Getting Australia Back on Track”.
While an initial attempt to move the bus off the median strip failed, it’s reported that passengers managed to slide the bogged wheel onto a plank of wood, though not in time for the media to be able to cover the first stop on Dutton’s media blitz.
The campaign may have hit a (literal) roadblock, but the efforts of the 40 journalists, camera operators and media advisers on board meant it was back on Dutton’s trail after about 40 minutes.
Since Dutton himself was not on the bus, the Liberal leader was still able to kickstart his plans to travel to 28 key seats in the final five days before the election this Saturday, May 3.

It comes the morning after Dutton and his election opponent, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, held their final leaders debate on Channel 7, trading barbs over the Welcome to Country, President Donald Trump and the price of a carton of eggs.
Dutton also reiterated his key election proposal of a fuel excise, but what good is the excise when the vehicle in question is bogged on a median strip?
Between Dutton’s campaign bus left (literally) spinning its wheels and his football headed straight for the face of cameraman earlier this month, Dutton would be wise to start consulting the stars to avoid anymore omens before election day. Or maybe his media entourage could just start biking to future engagements?
