Peter Crouch to pocket thousands for playing 'Rodney Trotter lookalike' in TV ad

Striker Peter Crouch is finally cashing in on his similarity to Only Fools and Horses’ Rodney Trotter.

The 6ft 7ins footballer may net £30,000 to pose as him in retail app Beanser's TV ad.

Ex-England ace Crouch used to hate the nickname Rodney, after Nicholas Lyndhurst’s character.

A source said: “The plan is for doubles of Del Boy, Uncle Albert, Boycie and Marlene in the ad, due out at the end of the year.”

Dad-of-four Crouchie, 38, married to model Abbey Clancy, was pictured at 19 dressed as Del Boy’s plonker brother.

He said: “That picture has haunted me a long time.”

But Only Fools also inspired the chant: “Black or white, rich or poor, Peter Crouch is gonna score” for the former Stoke idol.

This comes after it was announced the footballer will front a new weekly TV show with the new Premier League broadcasters alongside comedian John Bishop and Gabby Logan.

Amazon have got two rounds of Premier League rights in December and are doing Back of the Net every Tuesday from this summer to boost their coverage.

Typically, Crouch - who is now out of contract and a free agent after his contract with Burnley expired - had a witty remark about his switch from player to pundit.

Crouch said: “I’m really excited to start this show with Gabby and John and I'm hoping it’s going to be a smooth transition from bench to sofa.”

Burnley still want Crouch to carry on playing while the 6ft 7in striker has also had offers from China.

Scouser Bishop added: “Each week, I guarantee to give an extremely impartial, straight laced view of the recent champions of Europe.”

Amazon bill Back of the Net as “a weekly studio entertainment show about the most-watched sports league in the world, the Premier League, will launch this summer coinciding with the beginning of the new football season through to Prime Video’s exclusive live broadcast of matches in December 2019.
