Peter Crouch shares Liverpool regret as he reflects on stellar playing career

Peter Crouch has lifted the lid on the one regret he has from his time with Liverpool.

The former England striker moved to Anfield from Southampton in a £7million transfer in 2005 and spent three years with the club.

His time with the Reds got off to a rocky start as he failed to find the back of the net in 19 matches during a lengthy goal drought.

However, Crouch found his form and became a fan-favourite after playing an important role as Liverpool won the FA Cup in 2006.

And despite his tough start to life with Liverpool, Crouch wishes he had stayed with the club longer.

When asked what the biggest regret of his career is, Crouch told the Daily Mail : "It’s something I have thought a lot about... It would have been brilliant to be a one-club man or to spend 10 years at a particular place.

"My biggest club regret is leaving Liverpool too early but circumstances meant I had little option."

Crouch ended the 2006-07 season as Liverpool's top scorer with 18 goals and appeared in the Champions League final defeat to AC Milan.

However, he saw limited game time in the 2007-08 campaign due to the signing of Fernando Torres and was sold to former club Portsmouth at the end of the season for £11million.

Crouch also reflected in his transfers and identified a regret from his international career.

He added: "All my transfers happened for a reason. QPR went into administration, so I went to Portsmouth; I did well there then end up in the Premier League with Aston Villa. They were all logical.

"The other main regret I have revolves around England. I won 42 caps but felt I could have got many more."

Crouch scored 22 goals for the Three Lions and was represented his country at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
