Peter Crouch 'set to rival James Corden with launch of late night BBC talk show'

Peter Crouch might soon be the new king of late night UK TV as he is said to have landed a new talk show on the BBC.

The 39-year-old striker has impressed BBC bosses with his Radio 5 Live series, That Peter Crouch Podcast.

And now plans are afoot to have the lanky sports legend front a late night talk show similar in style to James Corden’s star studded The Late Late Show - with Crouchy’s series set to reel in guests from the worlds of football, sport, and entertainment.

According to The Sun, the usual suspects of late night shows are already being lined up to feature on the inevitably brightly coloured sofa - with musician Harry Styles, ageing ex-footballer David Beckham, and divisive comedian Jack Whitehall all tipped to feature.

“Peter has signed a rolling one-year deal with the BBC — and big things are expected,” a source told the publication.

“His podcast has shown his star quality and he has an array of unlikely celeb pals who are all happy to appear on his sofa,” the source continued.

“As well as his inaugural show starting in June, which is featured around the Euro 2020 tournament, he is being lined up as a regular chat show host in the mould of Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross,” the source added.

Peter won praise last year with his inaugural ‘Crouchfest’ festival in which he invited friends, celebrities and musical guests to join him for a day of discussions, jokes, and frivolity.

The event, which took place at Indico in London’s The O2 last June, saw performances from Liam Gallagher, You Me At Six, and featured Welsh opera legend Katherine Jenkins OBE singing the Champions League anthem.

Those in attendance were also treated to Crouchy rapping, encouraging downing of drinks, and performing his trademark robot dance.

Peter’s podcast series returned for a third series recently - with the star explaining that he was practically forced to make more episodes by angry fans.

“Every morning I look at my phone and see loads of angry tweets and messages from people demanding that we bring the podcast back,” he explained in December.

“And I mean really angry too – almost threatening, in a nice sort of way. For a podcast which basically involves me sitting in a pub with Tom and Chris and talking about football, there seem to be an enormous number of people who are listening… It's my favourite part of the week,” he added.
