Peter Crouch sends warning to Premier League about Tottenham after agonising Liverpool defeat

Peter Crouch believes Tottenham will remain in the thick of the title race despite defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday evening.

Spurs were dealt a cruel blow as they attempted to prove their title credentials against the reigning champions at Anfield, conceding a winner in stoppage time.

Roberto Firmino headed home a corner in added time after Son Heung-min had cancelled out Mo Salah's deflected opener, the Reds taking a three-point advantage over Tottenham at the top of the table as a result.

But while the defeat will be a bitter blow for Mourinho's men, they will not slip away from the title race, according to former Spurs and Liverpool striker Crouch.

“It has shown how far Spurs have come, though," he said on Amazon Prime. "They’ve come a long, long way from where they were.

“They’re not going away. He (Mourinho) didn’t want to say it in the interview there, but I believe they are in the title race.

"It’s been a long wait for Spurs to win something, I’m not saying they’re gonna win the league, but they’ll win something soon.”

Mourinho was not best pleased in his post-match interview, but not just with the result. The Spurs boss took aim at his Liverpool counterpart Klopp, saying: "By the way, if I behaved the same way on the touchline like he does, then I have no chance of staying there and I’m out for a minute.

"That’s animated? Do you want me to take the fourth official board from his hands and see what happens to me? For some reason, I am different.”

Crouch also gave his verdict on that outburst from the Spurs boss, relishing the character of the two managers, he added: "He (Mourinho) causes drama, doesn’t he? We’re hanging onto the words of both men. Fantastic characters that we have in the English game.

"You wouldn’t change Jurgen with the way he behaves and we didn’t change Mourinho, or maybe some people would. It’s good drama.”
