Peter Crouch says Everton are 'belittled' by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool team selection for Merseyside derby

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch believes Everton will be furious by the rotated side that Jurgen Klopp has selected for this evening's game, suggesting that they will feel 'belittled'.

The Reds have for the hosting of their arch-rivals at Anfield , with neither of Roberto Firmino or Mohamed Salah starting the match.

That raised plenty of eyebrows, as it was expected that Liverpool would name their strongest side, and Crouch believes it could lead to a reaction from their opponents.

“It shows huge confidence and it’s a little bit belittling for Everton. If I was in that Everton dressing room, I’d be fuming. I’d be thinking they think that they can roll us over easily, although there are top-quality internationals in this team. If I was in the Everton dressing room, this would give me a little spur," he told Amazon Prime Video.

However, former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry believes that the choices made by Klopp merely shows his confidence in his entire squad, adding that it's not just 11 players who will win a side the title.

“He believes in his team, he believes in his squad. You win a title with your squad, not just with your front three and the 11 main players out there," he explained.

"If you remember last year, Shaqiri, Origi, they scored so many important goals and you need these types of moments. You don’t win the league with 11 players.”

Former Everton boss Roberto Martinez echoed that belief, adding that he feels the choices will not make any difference at all to Liverpool's preparations.

“I think Jurgen Klopp will have an incredible belief about the mentality of this group. You have to try it, to see if other players can come in and do a job. I do think that this Liverpool side is capable of making four or five changes and giving you exactly the same level.

“Everyone knows how they play, everyone knows their role, but their mentality has been the most crucial role during their early form this season”
