Peter Crouch outlines the issue Tottenham need to address in the January transfer window

Former Tottenham forward Peter Crouch has called on his former club to freshen things up in January and sort the contract situations out that currently linger over a number of first-team stars.

Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen will all be able to leave Spurs on free transfers at the end of the season unless they agree a new deal with the club in the coming months.

The trio have all been sparingly-used by boss Mauricio Pochettino this season, with Alderweireld left out of the matchday squad for his side's game against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.

And Crouch believes the issue needs to be tackled head on in January.

Pochettino's pride in Harry Kane

"Yeah it needs freshening up," the former England international told BT Sport when asked about the club's plans for the January transfer window.

"The biggest thing for me is that it has been rumbling on for a long time. All the Eriksens, the Alderweirelds, they either sign new contracts or they move on.

"And I think that needs to be addressed in January."

Jermaine Jenas has quashed talk that some of the club's players have downed tools as they know their futures lie elsewhere.

"The issue is, come January, those players can start talking to other clubs anyway. So they are going to know exactly where they stand," the former Spurs midfielder said.

"Look I know these players personally, I don’t think they are players, in my mind, would step over the white line and not give their all.

"I know players who can do that, but those two characters, in my opinion, aren't like that."
