Peter Crouch makes guilty confession over goal he scored against Arsenal

Peter Crouch has owned up to once scoring a goal with his hand against Arsenal - but isn't expecting the strike to get taken away from him.

The current Premier League season has been the first to feature VAR, with handball leading to goals one of the major subjects of contention over the course of the campaign.

But thankfully for Crouch, that wasn't the case just three years ago when Stoke took on Arsenal at the Bet365 Stadium towards the tail end of the 2016/17 season.

The Potters were 2-0 down to Arsene Wenger's visitors courtesy of goals from Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil either side of half-time, when Crouch pulled the hosts back into the game with what initially looked to be a headed goal.

But when asked by a reader of his Mail Online column whether he'd ever scored a goal with his hand, Crouch responded: "Well, you are going to get a confession from me. Yes, I have scored with my hand and, yes, I claimed the goal

"I'll be honest with you, I still feel a bit guilty about it now. Stoke played Arsenal at home at the end of the 2016/17 season and we were losing 2-0.

"In an attempt to get us back into the match, I threw myself at a cross and punched the ball past Petr Cech.

"I don't know how it wasn't ruled out but it was given and I celebrated rather sheepishly. I feel a bit guilty about it but it's three years since it happened. I don't think they will take it off me now."

Crouch's goal didn't lead to anything for Stoke though, with Alexis Sanchez and Giroud adding further strikes for the Gunners as they won 4-1.
