Peter Crouch launches fierce defence of Patrick Bamford goal after Leeds United VAR controversy

Peter Crouch has fiercely protested against VAR after it controversially ruled out Patrick Bamford's goal against Crystal Palace.

Scott Dann gave the hosts the lead in the 12th minute but the Whites thought they had restored parity.

However, despite being stood clearly behind the defender, Bamford's armpit, which was extended as he pointing to where he wanted the ball delivering, was ruled to be in an offside position by VAR.

There was similar controversy last month when Liverpool believed to have grabbed a stoppage-time winner through Jordan Henderson, only for Sadio Mane to be ruled offside by the finest of margins, which caused a flurry of anger.

Bamford's ruled out striker led to further fury on social media and in the BT Sport studio as Crouch vehemently argued that the goal should have stood.

"It's a lovely move, Ayling, into Klich with a lovely pass and what a finish, a man in confidence," Crouch told BT Sport.

"I just hate it. I feel so passionately about it. He's pointing to where he wants the ball. Is his armpit offside? Are we talking about armpits again?

"We had the problem with Mane in the Merseyside derby and it's so frustrating. It's a perfectly good goal, they've been robbed of a perfectly good goal."

Leeds then fell two goals behind as Ebere Eze curled in a cracking free-kick before Bamford halved the arrears with a goal that was allowed to stand.

An unfortunate Helder Costa goal just before half-time restored Palace's two-goal cushion, only for Jordan Ayew to add a fourth 20 minutes from full time.
