Peter Crouch issues verdict on Leeds United second-season syndrome fears

Former England striker Peter Crouch has confidently declared that he doesn't feel that Leeds United will suffer from second-season syndrome next year.

The Whites have excelled in their first season back in the top-flight but next year brings new challenges - and a warning has been issued by Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, who similarly shone last year but suffered relegation this term.

Leeds, therefore, cannot afford to rest upon their laurels over the course of the summer months to ensure they can push on from this year.

However, Crouch doesn't believe that will be a problem for Marcelo Bielsa's side as he issued a confident prediction for next term.

“It’s difficult to say, a lot of the time the second season can hit teams at times but I don't expect that to happen with Leeds," he told BT Sport ahead of Leeds' 4-0 win at Burnley.

"I think they'll go on and improve. They've been a breath of fresh air and it's nice to see teams come up from the Championship and not be scared of anyone and that is exactly how Leeds have played it this year."

Former England goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis agreed, stating that resigning Bielsa for another year could be the catalyst to propel Leeds into the battle for European qualification.

"You would expect that by now he knows what he needs and what he wants to bolster the squad because you've got Stuart Dallas who has played 82 of the last 83 matches, there's a lot of mileage on those clocks for a number of key players.

"With the style of play that he embodies, you're going to need a depth of squad to cope with that and the ambitions are to push on to get European football. You're going to need that because it gives more games.

"He's going to need more players in his squad but they have been wonderful to watch and I can't wait to see them again next season."
