Peter Crouch identifies why Jose Mourinho has dropped Tottenham's Dele Alli for Chelsea clash

Former Tottenham forward Peter Crouch believes Jose Mourinho has shown Dele Alli who is boss by dropping from his side’s starting line-up against Chelsea.

Alli cut a frustrated figure after being taken off during the midweek defeat to RB Leipzig in the Champions League, throwing a water bottle and one of his boots in anger in the dugout, while holding his head in his hands in frustration.

Mourinho insisted after the game that Alli was angry with himself rather than him following the incident - but did not clarify his reasons for leaving the star out of the starting XI.

Jose Mourinho on returning to Stamford Bridge

But Crouch believes Mourinho has opted to drop the England international as a result of his behaviour on Wednesday night.

"I think Jose has shown him who is boss today, to be honest," Crouch told BT Sport.

"You act like that, there has to be a comeuppance."

While fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand added on Alli: "There was a reaction after he got substituted in the Champions League in midweek.

"He threw his boots and had a bit of a tantrum.

"Some managers would say they like to see that. That emotion and that pride in being brought off.

"But I think Jose Mourinho is on the other hand of the spectrum, saying: 'I'm not going to have that done when you get brought off you act accordingly and you are going to see why you are watching the game from the bench today.'"
