Peter Crouch identifies Newcastle United red card that referee didn't see vs Liverpool

Peter Crouch believes Newcastle United should have had a player sent off against Liverpool.

The Reds were taking on the Magpies at Anfield in their latest game in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool a deserved lead in the early moments of the first half, but along with, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane, struggled to put further chances away before the interval.

Newcastle looked dangerous on the break at times, with the ball going past Alisson Becker before the referee blew the whistle for a from Federico Fernandez on Jota, with the offside flag also being raised.

Fernandez appeared to put his arm in Jota’s face and was booked for the offence, with VAR looking at the incident but not intervening as it did not feel a red card was necessary.

Former Liverpool striker Crouch however, who was on punditry duty for BT Sport said Newcastle were lucky not to be down to 10 men, feeling that Fernandez should have been sent off.

"I believe they're lucky,” Crouch said at half time. “Fernandez has got away with one.

"There's no need for that arm to be as low as it is and catch him in the face.

“I know a thing or two about a flailing arm and he's tried to do him."
