Peter Crouch explains decision to leave key Liverpool man out of Team of the Season

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has explained why he is leaving Mohamed Salah out of his Premier League team of the season.

The one-time Reds frontman has selected his best XI from the campaign and Salah is only a reserve.

Instead Crouch has selected four Reds players with Sadio Mane up front alongside Sergio Aguero and Son Heung-min in a front three.

Speaking about his decision to exclude the popular Liverpool forward who scored a sensational goal against Chelsea last season, Crouch admitted it wasn't an easy choice.

"I felt terrible leaving out Salah, whose form in the past couple of weeks has gone up a level, and Bernardo Silva in particular but it is not a slight on their efforts," said Crouch in the Daily Mail.

"We have been fortunate to witness some amazing football over the past eight months."

Included in the line-up were Raheem Sterling, who is a likely shout for PFA Player of the Year after a stunning years which has seen the England player silence critics of his performances at last summer's World Cup, and Christian Eriksen, who continues to be linked with a move away from Tottenham.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Virgil van Dijk, Aymeric Laporte and Andrew Robertson comprised the back four, whilst Eden Hazard was a predictable presence in Crouch's midfield.

"I fear this will be the last time I get to pick him for my team," said Crouch. "He made a breathtaking start to the season and Chelsea need to hope they finish in the top four or win the Europa League to ensure he stays at the club."
