Peter Capaldi gives his opinion on current state of BBC’s Doctor Who

  • Former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi has reflected on the show's current state, saying that “too many regenerations” have "diminished" the drama and impact of the character changes.
  • Speaking on the 100 Questions with Tom Simons podcast, Capaldi said: “The weight of this regeneration is diminished whereas when I grew up as a kid, [with] the first one, it was like ‘what just happened there?’.”
  • Capaldi explained his own departure from the role was due to key colleagues leaving and not being “sure” about the show’s creative direction.
  • Ncuti Gatwa, the most recent actor to play the Doctor, stepped down after two series, citing the physical and emotional demands of the role.
  • Showrunner Russell T Davies has announced the end of his second tenure, adding that Billie Piper has not been confirmed as the next Doctor.
