Peter Ankersen set for Copenhagen exit as Celtic target deemed surplus to requirements

Peter Ankersen is heading for an exit at Copenhagen - opening the door for Celtic to reignite their interest.

The experienced right-back is surplus to requirements at the Danish champions where manager Stale Solbakken has said he expects him to leave before the end of this transfer window.

The 28-year-old is in the final year of his deal at Copenhagen and is understood to have been on Neil Lennon's transfer wishlist throughout the summer.

Lennon is still in the market for a right-back despite landing Hatem Abd Elhamed from Hapoel Beer Sheva last week.

And Ankersen could fit the bill given his energy and experience in that position.

The 22-times capped Denmark star has made over 160 appearances for Copenhagen in four years.

He previously had spells at RB Salzburg, Rosenborg and Vejle Boldklub after breaking through at Esbjerg fB.

But boss Solbakken has strengthened that department of his squad and was quoted in his homeland today as saying Ankersen will leave the club in the current transfer window.

It comes after the arrival of Guillermo Varela from Penarol in January and Karlo Bartolec from FC Nordsjælland earlier this month.

Ankersen made 43 appearances for club and country last season, scoring one goal, but now looks set to continue his career elsewhere.
