Peter Andre shares Strep A worries as daughter Amelia comes down with scarlet fever

Peter Andre has opened up about parents' fears amid the spread of Strep A as he revealed his daughter Amelia has come down with scarlet fever.

Dad-of-four Peter, 49, opened up on the "tough situation" ahead of Christmas as he shared his gratitude that his wife Emily – whom he's been married to since 2015 – is a doctor.

Peter is a proud dad to his four children Junior, 17, and Princess, 15 – who he shares with ex Katie Price – and Amelia, eight, and six-year-old Theodore, who he shares with his wife Emily, 33.

When asked about the build-up to Christmas, Peter revealed the family have been "struck down by all sorts of things".

Peter, who is now Head of Summer Holidays for On the Beach Holidays, revealed: "We've been struck down by all sorts of things.

"So it started with Bista, she had a 24 hour bug that she passed to me – that was very nice of her!

"And then I got over the 24 hour bug after, obviously, 24 hours but then she then developed tonsillitis and then Theo then got tonsillitis and he's still on antibiotics.

"And now, Millie's got scarlet fever and so she's got the rash all over and it's like oh, no.

"So it's a bit of a tough situation for a lot of families going through that because, of course, there's a lot of the Strep A that's causing a lot of problems.

"So a lot of parents are worried. But for us, you know, Emily's a doctor and she's on it, she's on everything, so I feel very, very lucky in that in that respect."

According to the NHS, scarlet fever is "a contagious infection that mostly affects young children" but it is "easily treated with antibiotics".

Meanwhile, the NHS states that Strep A is a common type of bacteria. Most Strep A infections are mild and easily treated, but some are more serious. Scarlet fever is a Strep A infection.

Peter recently caused a stir as he asked radio stations to ban the Christmas classic, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams.

The Mysterious Girl singer penned an open letter to all radio stations in the UK on behalf of Brits who agree with him that irrespective of Andy Williams’ festive classic claim, Christmas is not the most wonderful time of the year.

A recent survey showed that the majority of Brits don't see Christmas as the 'best time of the year.'

Backing the claims in an open letter, the Mysterious Girl hit-maker wrote: “The results of the survey do not surprise me. Sure, festive frolics are fun but let’s face it, Christmas can get repetitive and pressurising. It’s much more exciting to visit new places, experience new things and make meaningful memories, and there’s no better place to do that than on holiday."

Speaking about the open letter in his exclusive interview with the Mirror, Peter revealed he had received messages from pals asking him about the stunt.

He said: "It's been so hilarious because I've had people going friends going, 'Why why you slating the song? What happened?' They don't understand that. It's a you know, really fun campaign and tongue in cheek campaign," Peter giggled.

Discussing the reaction, he added: "What was really funny was when my friend takes me yesterday, saying: 'What's wrong, man, why don't you like Andy Williams?' I was like, 'No, listen, if you actually read my open letter, we're thinking of just changing the lyrics, you know, which would be fun.'"

Peter is now Head of Summer Holidays for On the Beach Holidays.
