Peter Andre defends Molly-Mae Hague's baby name as Kerry Katona warns her to change it

Peter Andre has defended Molly-Mae Hague as cruel keyboard warriors continue to mock the new mum over her choice of baby name for her newborn daughter.

Former Love Island star Molly-Mae, 23, welcomed her first-born child, little Bambi, with boyfriend Tommy Fury on January 23rd.

Although Molly had warned that most people would 'hate' the name, the PrettyLittleThing creative director has faced immense criticism for calling her daughter Bambi Fury, with stars including Phillip Schofield and Kerry Katona criticising her choice, and insisting that Bambi risks being bullied in school because of her name.

However, Mysterious Girl hit-maker Peter, 49, reckons that everyone should stay out of it, as it is Molly and Tommy's own choice.

"Molly Mae Hague and Tommy Fury split opinion last week by naming their baby girl Bambi," Peter penned in his latest column with OK! Magazine.

"Now, I am not one to talk about giving your child an alternative name when my kids are called Princess and Junior. However, a child’s name is a personal choice.

"Bambi is a cute little deer, at the end of the day. I just think, why not? It’s up to them.

"Everyone else can have their opinion but it’s irrelevant. Molly Mae and Tommy show me there are some great things about Love Island because they’ve stayed together and been hugely successful.

"All power to them. If they love the name Bambi, that’s all that matters," Peter insisted.

While Peter is a fan of the name Bambi, the same can't be said for former Atomic Kitten star, Kerry Katona.

Kerry, 42, has urged new parents Molly-Mae and Tommy, both 23, to change their daughter's name and warned she risks 'getting stick' in school over the moniker.

Molly-Mae's name reveal divided fans – which could have sparked the new mum to turn the comments on the post off as the option to comment on the post was removed shortly after the image was shared.

Following the drama, Kerry has weighed in on the debate. Writing in her latest OK! magazine column, the TV personality shared she wasn't a fan of the name.

"Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury announced the birth of their daughter last week. It’s lovely news, but I must admit I’m not a fan of the name," she said.

"I think Bambi Fury sounds a bit ridiculous. It reminds me of the Disney film where the mother gets shot! The poor kid might get some stick in school."

"If they haven’t registered the name yet, maybe they should consider changing it. But each to their own."

It comes after Molly-Mae revealed she knew fans would either "love or hate" the name before making the big reveal and said she had the name picked out since she was a child.

She previously told her followers: "It's not made up, it's totally not made up, I can't explain it. It's just not a name that's ever been used before. It's very very different and rare and you're either going to love it or hate it."

Despite fans being split, Molly-Mae revealed her beau Tommy 'loved' the name when she told him of her hopes to name her tot Bambi.

"I've had the name picked out since I was a baby girl myself. It's always been a dream baby girl name and luckily when I met Tommy and I told him the name I've always dreamt of using, he absolutely loved it too," Molly-Mae added.

"It's a really really unusual and a different name, I do not know anybody else with the name. I've not seen any other girls with the name before, it's that different."
