Peter Andre calls for Shard climber to be released as he meets man's parents

Peter Andre has waded into the debate over The Shard climber, who has just been sentenced to a six months sentence.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 46, met George King-Thompson's parents behind the scenes at Good Morning Britain on Monday, joining their calls for him to be freed.

George, 20, from Oxford, climbed the 310-metre (1,017ft) building from the ground floor to near the very top in just 45 minutes back in July.

Pete called for George to be given a lighter punishment, calling his stint in a young offenders' institution "unfair".

He filmed George's mum and dad on Instagram , who thanked all of their supporters for signing a petition.

Pete said in the clip: "I'm not sure if you just watched Good Morning Britain but the wonderful parents of George who has been imprisoned for climbing The Shard, what would guys like to say for people watching this?"

George's mum said: "I'd like you to support him on Change.org, free George the inspirational Shard climber. That would be a fantastic help for us."

His dad added: "There are already over 5,000 that have signed up which is fantastic."

"OK guys great stuff, thank you for your support everyone," Peter said.

The dad-of-four argued that the sentence was too harsh as George hadn't hurt anyone with his actions.

He captioned the video: "Today on Good morning Britain I had a chat with these lovely people whose son has been given a six month jail sentence for climbing The Shard in London.

"Now many have had different views on this with some saying 'if you break the law, you pay the price', whilst others are completely outraged that someone who didn't hurt anyone would be given a prison sentence whilst others who have committed crimes in which people have been hurt or even killed may get a much lighter punishment.

"The parents have asked for help here.

"What are your thoughts? If, like me, you feel that this is very unfair, then please listen to their appeal. change.org search for free George the inspirational Shard climber."
