Peter Andre admits it's 'really tough' as ailing parents need care but he cannot visit

Peter Andre appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday where he opened up about his guilt that he cannot care for his poorly elderly parents.

His parents Savvas and Thea live in Australia, where some of the borders are closed due to the pandemic.

Host Charlotte Hawkins said: "This must be such a hard situation for you, not being able to travel to see your parents, and I know your mum's not well."

Peter replied: "The thing is, I don't want to take away from people here, that weren't allowed to see their parents that were two miles away.

"The problem is now for us, yes some of the restrictions are lifted and same in Australia now, and some other countries around the world you can't go.

"And if you were to go you'd have to quarantine somewhere else, you wouldn't be able to go to see your parents and quarantine for two weeks to see them.

"So it's a really difficult time."

He went on: "The borders in Victoria are completely shut, so it's a really difficult time right now.

"What I say to people and mum and dad is, All these years, whatever job I was doing, anywhere in the world, if mum and dad said, ‘You need to get home, we need you’. You wouldn’t think twice, whereas now we can't.

"Mum isn't well, dad isn't well, they're 87 and 85, it's really tough."

He agreed the pandemic had made him realise the importance of seeing family as much as possible, and when restrictions lift he would love to visit his parents alongside his brother, thought he thought it might be safer to visit them one at a time and stagger it.

"My sister lives out there and she is basically caring for mum and dad, but she has a child and fiancé, so it's really difficult for her as well.

"They need us now, they looked after us all our lives, now they need looking after and we can't, it's tough, it's really tough," he revealed.

Peter also spoke about his wife Emily Macdonagh, who is a doctor, and said sometimes he has no idea what to say to her when she gets home because he feels inadequate after she has saved lives all day.

He explained that after work Emily tells her family if she has been in the "hot zone" treating coronavirus patients, or "cold zone" without anyone infected, and if she has been working in the former, they "can't go near her".
