Pete Werner ecstatic for ‘unbelievable’ opportunity with the Saints

Old-school Saints fans might not be used to hearing it, but New Orleans is an attractive destination for NFL draft prospects coming out of powerhouse college programs like Ohio State. Pete Werner, the Saints’ second-round pick at No. 60, is proof of that.

“This is the top place,” Werner said during his introductory press conference on Friday evening. “This is almost the capital for guys coming out of Ohio State, so it feels great to be one of those guys. Being a Saint is everybody’s dream, so finding a great place like New Orleans is unbelievable.”

He knows what he’s talking about; the Saints have added plenty of talent from Columbus, Ohio over the years. Recent home-run draft picks have included Michael Thomas and Marshon Lattimore, plus a solid starter in Vonn Bell. Malcolm Jenkins and the late Will Smith have also left enduring legacies on the game. And now Werner gets an opportunity to follow in their footsteps.
