Pete Oxley & Nicolas Meier: Chasing Tales review – ‘a gorgeous array of changing sounds’

Pete Oxley & Nicolas Meier
Pete Oxley & Nicolas Meier: 'masterly guitarists'.

These are two masterly guitarists, although very different in style. Oxley has been playing on the British jazz scene since 1997, with everyone from Stacey Kent to Gilad Atzmon, while Meier, originally from Switzerland, has toured the world, absorbing musical idioms en route. In the course of these dozen pieces the array of changing sounds, moods and textures they create is gorgeous, fascinating and apparently endless. Don’t fall into the trap of assuming that this is something exclusively for guitar buffs, or even jazz buffs. If you love music of any kind you’ll probably fall for this.
