Pete Doherty says his band will be 'destroyed' by Brexit

Former Babyshambles and The Libertines frontman Pete Doherty says Brexit could "destroy" his band The Puta Madres.

The songwriter is the only member of the band with a British passport, Pete says.

KentLive reports that he's been writing music and playing live with Peter Doherty and The Puta Madres since November 2016.

Their debut self-titled album is due out later this month on April 26 but Pete fears that leaving the European Union could spell the end for his six-piece outfit because of their mixed nationalities.

Pete Doherty spoke to Channel 4 (Channel 4)

Pete spoke to Channel 4 in an interview in which he voiced his concerns when asked about Brexit.

But he also admitted it could be good for music despite the personal impact it may have on his work.

The 40-year-old said: “It breaks my heart really because I’ve got this horrible creeping- yeah I can feel it, like in Watership Down, when the fields start to turn black, because of all the propaganda that we’re getting fed about Brexit.

“I don’t believe that this Great British nation is capable of doing that to itself – and destroying my band in the process, because I’m the only British passport holder in the band.”

He continued: “It will be the best thing in the world for music... There will be an incredible backlash.”
