Pete Carroll ‘would’ve loved’ to play C.J. Prosise more in Week 1

Seattle Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise showed up in a big way in the final two preseason games, forcing his way onto the roster when he had previously been considered a cut candidate thanks to a lengthy injury history.

However, despite his triumphant comeback story, Prosise only saw the field for three snaps in Week 1 against the Bengals – all on the special teams.

Coach Pete Carroll expressed that Prosise didn’t get “into the flow of it” until late in the week last week, and therefore he was not a part of the game plan.

“I would’ve loved to have got him in,” Carroll continued. “We talked about it in the fourth quarter to see if he could finish off. We just didn’t quite get it done. No hesitation. I thought both the other guys were running hard and feeling good and we hadn’t overworked them for sure. We have no hesitation in him playing.”

Prosise remains behind Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny on the depth chart at running back, and is likely ahead of rookie Travis Homer – although neither of them got any snaps on offense.

Prosise has a long way to go to win back many of the Seahawks faithful. As a third round pick in 2016, a ton of hype carried Prosise through his rookie season. However, a myriad of injuries over the last few years limited him to just career 16 NFL games, and limited production in that time as well.

If Prosise can prove healthy throughout the 2019 campaign, his unique skill set as a rusher and pass-catcher will make him a valuable piece of Seattle’s offensive scheme – even if it didn’t come to fruition in Week 1.
