Pete Carroll wishes Seahawks used Jaron Brown more last year

The Seattle Seahawks signed veteran receiver Jaron Brown to a two-year, $5.5 million dollar contract last season, ostensibly making him their No. 3 receiver behind Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett.

However, the emergence of David Moore and Seattle’s passionate dedication to running the football meant Brown only received 19 targets last season, despite appearing in all 16 games.

Brown sure made the most of those 19 targets though, hauling in 14 of them for 166 yards and five touchdowns. That helped Brown earn an above average 65.1 grade from Pro Football Focus, despite the limited use.

“Jaron Brown is a really good player that we look back and we could’ve used him a lot more,” coach Carroll said Wednesday on 710 ESPN Seattle. “He did a lot of things for us. He blocked well, and fit into a lot of stuff, scored five touchdowns on a limited amount of catches. So we know we can go to him, he’s a real pro and so we’re anxious to see him develop more.”

Brown is a potential cut candidate as he comes with a relatively hefty $3.725 million dollar cap hit in 2019. However, Carroll’s comments may indicate the team is planning to hold onto him.

Considering the ailments that are plaguing Doug Baldwin, and the inconsistency that Moore showed down the stretch, it seems like a good idea to keep the veteran in place for next season.
