Pete Carroll tells absolutely epic story about D.K. Metcalf’s interview with Seahawks

D.K. Metcalf wasn’t afraid to show off.

When the Ole Miss receiving prospect met with the Seattle Seahawks, who ultimately picked Metcalf at 64th overall in the second round, he elected to go shirtless into the job interview. Coach Pete Carroll was stunned and a little “pissed off,” so he responded by taking off his shirt.

Perfectly normal football stuff.

Metcalf went viral when a photo circulated of him looking absurdly jacked. That got the Metcalf hype train rolling. It continued when he ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the 2019 NFL Combine. Then his draft stock came crashing down to earth with a 7.38-second 3-cone drill, which was third worst among receivers in the draft.

Having trouble believing it? There’s video evidence.

Maybe Metcalf’s negative buzz was why he went shirtless. He wanted the conversation to go back to the days when people were gawking at his muscles. (Or, more likely, maybe he was in a hurry after a workout at the combine.)

Supposedly, Metcalf doesn’t like taking off his shirt. At least that’s what he told Sports Illustrated a few weeks ago. And yet, there he was, sitting half-naked with an equally half-naked Carroll.

There’s nothing else in sports quite like the NFL’s egregiously and unabashedly thorough pre-draft process
