Pete Carroll says Geno Smith ‘feels really good’ after walk-through practice

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll’s whole happy, sunshine all-the-time thing is being tested by the team’s four-game losing streak. While you can hear his patience thinning, Carroll is still trying to put on a positive spin. Asked today about the status of starting quarterback Geno Smith, he said that he “feels really good” after participating in a walk-through practice.

Carroll also told reporters at the VMAC that rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon will not practice with what they’re calling a hip pointer.

Last week the Seahawks listed Smith as questionable and called it a game-time decision, but by the time pre-game warmups started it was apparent that they’d already decided to sit him. Smith’s groin issue is being called a “two-week injury,” implying he might miss Monday night, as well.

Instead Seahawks fans got the full Drew Lock experience in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers. Lock showed off his superior velocity and range and his accuracy was on-point. However, Lock also threw several of what Carroll called bone-headed throws, including one when he was already past the line of scrimmage. Lock finished the game with two interceptions but could just as easily have had four.

We’ll learn more throughout the week. The first injury report should be out soon.
